PHONICS/SPELLING: We discussed long vowels and words with long vowels. The "e" at the end of a word makes the vowel say it's name. We read 2 fluency passages and sorted the words with long vowels by a, e, i, o, and u. Next week, we are still focusing on long vowels, but with words with open syllables. Reading/ELA: We learned about the beginning, middle, and end of a story. We read some books and completed B, M, E graphic organizers. They loved the story we read on Friday, Beekle The Unimaginary Friend! The kids are really having fun with reader's theater, noun scavenger hunts, reading to self, word work, and 5W projects in our Daily 5 time. I love meeting with them in small groups and reading books with them. We also learned about common and proper nouns. Proper nouns ALWAYS need a capital letter! Next week, we will learn plural nouns and collective nouns. WRITING: We finished drafting our small moments story! I cannot wait to read them as we conference next week and prepare to write final drafts. SOCIAL STUDIES: We continued our study of the great state of Georgia through a culminating map project activity! We learned about the five regions of Georgia: Appalachian Plateau, Valley and Ridge, Blue Ridge, Piedmont, and the Coastal Plain and the 3 main rivers: Chattahoochee, Savannah, and Flint! We incorporated map keys, compass rose, and research of natural resources in our great state. Next week, we will begin talking about the government specifically focusing on rules and laws. MATH: We reviewed base ten blocks this week. We discussed how there are 10 ones in a ten, 10 tens in 100, and 100 ones in 100. We completed some workbook pages in our MyMath books to help reinforce that concept. Next week, we will still be talking about place value and making numbers up to 999. We can show numbers in a variety of ways: standard form, expanded form, base ten blocks, and word form. I hope you have a great 3 day weekend!! ~Mrs. Noblet
