Reading/ELA: We continued learning about the beginning, middle, and end of stories and started talking about how characters respond to actions, thoughts, or events in each part of the story since all those things can change. We read Thunder Cake and The Bad Case of the Stripes to analyze character changes. We continued our reading center menu choices and guided reading with a teacher. We worked on collective nouns and completed a Collective Noun quilt on Friday! Their pictures look so awesome. WRITING: We wrote narrative papers in reading centers and also wrote through our subject areas this week- explaining the character responses in the beginning, middle, and end of stories. SOCIAL STUDIES: We learned about the government. There are 3 levels of government: local, state, and national, people who work within them, and different duties of each government. I will be sending home two of our Georgia Studies weekly newspapers about the government on Monday. The test will be on Wednesday! MATH: We finished our place value unit with Place Value Creations. The kids had to use base ten blocks to create pictures and then calculate the number of ones, tens, and hundreds used in the picture. I love them!! We will be starting money and skip counting on Monday, along with working on comparing numbers. I hope you have a SUPER weekend!! ~Mrs. Noblet

We are ready to celebrate Izzy as our Star Student the week of September 10th!!
Important Dates to Remember! 9/8: Green Apple Day of Service 8-12 9/10-17: Big Head Campaign https://4agc.com/donation_pages/ee84c117-fe30-433e-a022-c89ed5775764 9/24-9/28: Fall Break Upcoming Quizzes/Tests: 9/11: Rules and Laws Quiz 9/12: Plural Noun Quiz 9/13: Unit 4 Spelling 9/14: 5-A-Day Spiral Review Quiz What did we do this week?? PHONICS/SPELLING: We worked on words with open syllables that have long vowels. Next week, we will be learning long A digraphs. They are two letters, which make the long A sound. Our spelling words have these patterns: ai, ey, ei, ay. Reading/ELA: We continued learning about the beginning, middle, and end of stories and started talking about how characters respond to actions, thoughts, or events in each part of the story since all those things can change. We continued our reading center menu choices and guided reading with a teacher. I am challenging each of my reading groups by going up a reading level. They are doing great! We learned about plural nouns and the kids' heads were spinning that there were "SO MANY RULES"! Most plural nouns just have an -s, some an -es, others -ies, there are those that do not change, and some that change completely! Next week, we will do more with collective nouns. WRITING: We are all finished publishing our first small moments story!! I conferenced with every student and gave them feedback to become better writers. They did so awesome. SOCIAL STUDIES: We started learning about rules and laws and why we have them. This pertains to our government, which we will start learning about next week. There are 3 levels of government: local, state, and national, people who work within them, and different duties of each government. I will be sending home our Georgia Studies weekly about the government. Please read over them with your child this week, as government tends to be a harder concept for them to learn. MATH: We had so much fun showing numbers in a variety of ways: standard form, expanded form, base ten blocks, and word form. We did a lot of hands-on activities where the kids opened bags of base-ten blocks, figured out how many were in there, wrote the number in word form, expanded form, and standard form. The kids loved going on a math scavenger hunt around the classroom. I hope you have a fun weekend!! ~Mrs. Noblet |
