Important Dates to Remember! 2/14: Valentine's Day 2/18-2/22: Winter Break Upcoming Quizzes/Tests: 2/11: Subtraction Quiz 2/11: Closely related verbs Quiz 2/14: Spelling Test 2/15: 5 A Day Spiral Review Quiz What did we do this week? What is coming next week? PHONICS/SPELLING: This week, we learned about compound words and thought of LOTS of words that are made of 2 little words. Next week, we will be focusing on contractions and the 2 words that make up the contractions. Reading/ELA: We have been working on folktales and fables. We discussed how fables usually have talking animals and a lesson or moral to be learned. The kids loved the fables and guessing the moral! WRITING: Ms. Reagan taught the class more about opinions and reasons to support that opinion. The kids wrote another opinion piece on if we should get a class fish or hamster. We will focus on having strong beginnings and adding transition words in our writing. SOCIAL STUDIES: We finished learning about Juliette Gordon Low and all of her work to begin the Girl Scouts. We will be moving into our Science unit about the sun, stars, and the moon. MATH: In math, we worked on adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers up to 1000. We are using various strategies; i.e. base-ten blocks, partial sums, expanded addition, part-part whole, and expanded subtraction. Some problems that we have been learning are: 567 + 289 and 617 - 348. It can be challenging for some, but I have to say, my kids are ROCKING out their math strategies and doing a great job. We will have a subtraction quiz on Monday! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! ~Mrs. Noblet
